Intern Spotlight – Flor Reyes

Flor Reyes is a junior at NIU with a major in Nonprofit and NGO Studies and a minor in Political Science.

This summer, Flor participated in the DCNP-NGOLD Internship Program and was paired with the DeKalb County Youth Service Bureau. The following is what Flor had to say about her internship experience:

Q: What projects are you working on as an intern?

Flor: While working at my internship I’ve had the opportunity to work on various projects, one being supervising a young boy from middle school who was in the suspension program at YSB. I have also edited the annual report, added/removed donors, translated flyers, compared and contrasted two different programs, and I attended the annual DeKalb Chamber golf outing where I helped with the check in.

Q: What is the best part of your internship?

Flor: Getting to learn and meet new people has been one of the many benefits this internships has given me. Being able to see how a nonprofit works and also the challenges that come up in the journey of helping is a great experience to have.

Q: In your opinion, why should students pursue internship opportunities?

Flor: Internships give students a better look of the field they want to work with and also helps us to discover our skills and gives us experiences that we might not get in the classroom.

Q: Please share any additional comments you would like to share about your internship experience.

Flor: Thank you for helping students to have access to this opportunity.
