Excitement Builds for Give DeKalb County
May 3, 2017Kelsey Peterson is a senior at NIU with a major in Organizational/Corporate Communications and a minor in Community Leadership and Civic Engagement (CLCE).
This semester, Kelsey participated in the Internship Program and was paired with the Kishwaukee Special Recreation Association. The following is what Kelsey had to say about her internship experience:
Q: What projects are you working on as an intern?
Kelsey: As an intern, I have been able to be a part of the Fundraising Team, Advertising and Marketing Team, and on a Job Position Creation Team.
Q: What is the best part of your internship?
Kelsey: I think it has been incredibly beneficial to apply the academic knowledge learned in the classroom and see how it is directly applied in real, hands-on settings. This internship has been a direct link form this collaboration in a safe, secure, and learning environment.
Q: In your opinion, why should students pursue internship opportunities?
Kelsey: I believe that internships are one of the most helpful experiences that a person can do while earning their degree. It lets them see first hand if the career path they are working towards is a good fit for them.
Q: Please share any additional comments you would like to share about your internship experience.
Kelsey: I could not thank the funders of this program enough. My experience with the Internship Program has been more influential than I can even adequately describe.
