Intern Spotlight – William Faltyn
July 27, 2017Flor Reyes is a junior at NIU with a major in Nonprofit and NGO Studies and a minor in Political Science.
This summer, Flor participated in the Internship Program and was paired with the DeKalb County Youth Service Bureau. The following is what Flor had to say about her internship experience:
Q: What projects are you working on as an intern?
Flor: While working at my internship I’ve had the opportunity to work on various projects, one being supervising a young boy from middle school who was in the suspension program at YSB. I have also edited the annual report, added/removed donors, translated flyers, compared and contrasted two different programs, and I attended the annual DeKalb Chamber golf outing where I helped with the check in.
Q: What is the best part of your internship?
Flor: Getting to learn and meet new people has been one of the many benefits this internships has given me. Being able to see how a nonprofit works and also the challenges that come up in the journey of helping is a great experience to have.
Q: In your opinion, why should students pursue internship opportunities?
Flor: Internships give students a better look of the field they want to work with and also helps us to discover our skills and gives us experiences that we might not get in the classroom.
Q: Please share any additional comments you would like to share about your internship experience.
Flor: Thank you for helping students to have access to this opportunity.
