Deisy Molina Cortes is a Senior at NIU majoring in Psychology, with minors in Sociology and Deafness Rehabilitation. She is currently an intern at DeKalb County Youth Service Bureau for the Spring 2019 semester.
Here is what Deisy had to say about her internship experience so far:
Q: What projects are you working on as an intern?
Deisy: I help with translating material into Spanish, and also taking new patient intake information. I also work with applying for grants and making some information more easily accessible. I also helped with the Royal Children’s Ball, which was held on March 15, it was really exciting.
Q: What is the biggest benefit and/or the coolest part of your internship experience?
Deisy: The biggest benefit from this internship is getting hands-on experiences with helping youth, and how to better help them in any way possible.
Q: In your opinion, why should students pursue internship opportunities?
Deisy: Internship opportunities are very helpful. They teach you things you might have not known before, and push you to find multiple solutions for a problem. They also help you understand and be able to take rejection. Not every idea you might have will work, and that’s okay. It also opens the door to a lot of exciting and new experiences.
Q: Please share any additional comments you have about your internship experience.
Deisy: Thank you so much to the Roberts Family Foundation for your support! Without it we may not have these types of experiences and I am extremely grateful for this!
