Dr. Jax ML Black, MA, MHA, PHD is The Big Joy Theory’s Joy Maximizer. She is a certified coach, experienced consultant, and dynamic speaker and leader.
Standing tall at 5’4”, Dr. Jax learned at an early age that defying expectations is not only possible, but necessary. She discovered the high jump in the third grade, and later became a three-time Division-1 All-American.
After earning her MA, MHA, and PhD, she used her expertise and experience from her high jump career to coach others into their most authentic leadership presence by understanding who they really are and what lights them up—then maximizing that joy in their work. Instead of focusing on promotions or milestones, she encourages clients to operate today from their final, ultimate forms.
Dr. Black was one of 50 women who launched the inaugural Women In Entrepreneurship Program at DePaul University. She is also one of the inaugural faculty members of the Masters in Design Thinking at National Louis University focusing on women in entrepreneurship as well as a board member of the Women In Philanthropy at Indiana University and partner to The Axelson Center for Non-Profit Management at North Park University.
Nonprofit Day is brought to you by the DeKalb County Nonprofit Partnership. Questions? Contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Joy In The Heart Of Leadership – This keynote presentation is an invitation for all leaders to center their breath and lead from the wisdom of their own hearts, rooted in joy. Empowering communities is often a journey in which we work to get to joy, leaving it as a hoped-for outcome of our work. However, it is the power of our joy, inside each of our hearts, that we need to most successfully navigate the journey. In this engaging keynote presentation, Dr. Jax ML Black guides us through new ways of thinking that will allow each of us to break through and orient our leadership around joy, instead of waiting for joy to come to us.
Leading With Joy In A V.U.C.A. World – Building on the keynote presentation, this talk delves deeper into the real-world and practical applications of joy as a model of leadership in a world so often filled with V.U.C.A. (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity). Change is not a monster. Challenges are a perpetual opportunity for you to unleash your joy to co-create and innovate a better world. Learn how to no longer allow the obstacles and struggles that lie in front of your organization and/or surround you personally keep you from doing what you are most meant to do in this world: lead from a place of joy.
